2016 Annual Physical Examination

Sustaining life is just as important as earning a living. Most of the time, even more so, as it comprises of your family’s happiness and well-being—the lifestyle that you are seeking and the dreams you have set out to achieve. All of these are closer than one might realize with a happy and a healthy workplace and by becoming a better person. This is the reason why top management fastidiously encourages regular TMs to subject themselves to the annual physical examination.

Last Friday (01 July), a total of 52 teammates from PAI, CP, Libra Agro and SiTech underwent the annual physical examination held inside the combined conference rooms that is supplemented by a mobile x-ray laboratory in front of the PAI PSD office. Diagnostic tests such as complete blood count (CBC), urinalysis, fecalysis, chest x-ray, Hepatitis B screening, serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (SGPT liver profiling), fasting blood sugar (FBS), total cholesterol, electrocardiograph (ECG), pap smear, lipid profiling (HDL-high density lipoprotein/LDL-low density lipoprotein) and ishihara/computerized eye examination. An assured benefit of seeing physicians regularly is allowing TMs to gather information about making healthy lifestyle choices, as well as other lifestyle changes to control any health conditions that may arise due to the APE results.

A week from now, the APE results will be distributed by SureHealth Multi-Specialty and Diagnostic Clinic Corp. in collaboration with EastWest Healthcare, which is the accredited health maintenance organization (HMO) insurance provider for PAI, CP, Libra Agro and SiTech. In the unlikely occasions that teammates would be tested positive for highly communicable diseases (e.g., AIDS, TB and Hepatitis B), the HRD would proceed to handle these cases in accordance with established policies based on DOLE and DOH rulings.

Similar to the KPIs enumerated in PAI’s Quality Plan, timeliness of health information increases the chance that treatment of a disease detected early will be successful. Weight, height, blood pressure and cholesterol are common considerations that physicians measure during checkups. If a sudden rise in blood pressure is discovered, for example, further tests will be recommended to determine the cause and start treatment right away before the condition worsens. Relatedly, if there is a spike in blood sugar, a prudent change to healthy diet may be effected to stave off the onset of diabetes and avoid internal organ complications.

Life can be better and every morning should bring us closer to our goals, especially if TMs are taking advantage of the regular office calisthenics exercises to compensate for the deskbound lifestyle that employees usually succumb to. The annual physical examination is the barometer that each teammate should look forward to in order to lead a happy, healthy and productive life for himself and his family.
